Why does the LED display distribution box frequently trip? How to solve it?

When using the full-color LED display, many users will encounter the problem of frequent tripping of the distribution box. Unreasonable layout of the leakage protector

The installation site of the LED display often has certain particularities, such as:

  • Wrong line wiring
  • Damaged line
  • Damaged leakage protector in the switch box
  • Some electrical appliances do not pass through the switch box

In addition, the leakage protector itself may also malfunction or refuse to operate. If the leakage protector is not reasonably arranged according to the actual power consumption, it may cause the total leakage protector to trip frequently.

Solution:

In order to reduce the frequent tripping of the total leakage protector, we recommend taking the following measures:

  • The leakage protector on the incoming main power supply should be mainly used to prevent electrical fire hazards and electrical short circuits, and also serve as backup protection for each small leakage protection range.
  • The rated leakage action current can be selected between 200 and 500mA, and the rated leakage action time can be selected between 0.2 and 0.3 seconds to reduce the impact of surge voltage, surge current, and electromagnetic interference on the total leakage protector.

By reasonably distributing the secondary and tertiary leakage protectors, they are in an effective protection state, thereby reducing the probability of frequent tripping of the total leakage protector.

The internal wiring of the LED display screen is relatively complex, with more metal conductors and more wire joints. If the insulation of the wire is poor, leakage is very likely to occur. In addition, some users add additional sockets during the installation process without equipping corresponding leakage protectors, which will also cause leakage risks.

Solution:

  • Please ensure the normal working state of the final leakage protector to avoid the tripping of the upper protection device due to damage or improper selection.
  • For additional electrical equipment, such as sockets, a dedicated leakage protector should be installed.

Use high-quality, well-insulated wires to reduce leakage caused by line problems.

Unbalanced three-phase power consumption leads to misoperation of the leakage protector

The leakage protectors on the market are mainly electromagnetic and electronic types, both of which use magnetic induction voltage transformers to detect leakage current.

In a three-phase power supply system, the three-phase current should be evenly distributed in the magnetic ring under ideal conditions. However, in actual applications, the three-phase power load of the full-color LED display is often not completely balanced, resulting in the induction of electromotive force in the magnetic ring. When the electromotive force exceeds a certain threshold, the leakage protector will trip.

In addition, leakage protectors with larger rated currents usually use larger magnetic rings, which may generate larger leakage fluxes, reducing the sensitivity of the leakage protector and even causing refusal or misoperation.

Solution:

  • We can reasonably distribute the three-phase load and try to keep the balance between the phases to avoid the false operation of the leakage protector caused by unbalanced power consumption.
  • For example: We can choose a leakage protector with high sensitivity and strong anti-interference ability to reduce the false tripping caused by the induced electromotive force of the magnetic ring.

If the rated leakage action current of the leakage protector used in the switch box exceeds 30mA, or exceeds the rated current of the electrical equipment by more than twice, or even a delayed leakage protector is selected, then when a leakage fault occurs, the final leakage protector may not be able to operate in time, causing the upper leakage protector to trip.

In addition, the LED video display will generate a large instantaneous current when it starts, and this large current may trigger the leakage protector to trip.

Solution:

  • When powering on the LED display, we should power on the box in batches as much as possible to reduce the impact of instantaneous current on the leakage protector.
  • Select an electromagnetic leakage protector with strong surge overvoltage and overcurrent resistance.
  • The rated current of the electronic leakage protector should be 1.5 to 2 times higher than the rated current of the electrical equipment, but the rated leakage action current of the final leakage protector should not be greater than 30mA.

Other factors

  • Humid environment: If the distribution box is installed in a humid environment, it is easy to cause the line to be damp, causing leakage problems.

  • Construction quality problems: If the wiring is not standardized and the line is not fixed during the construction process, it may cause short circuit or leakage.

  • Please choose a dry and well-ventilated location to install the distribution box, and take moisture-proof measures.
  • Check the line regularly and replace aging cables and electrical components in time.
  • Ensure that the construction personnel have professional qualifications and strictly follow the standards for wiring and wiring.
